One of the best times for students to travel is during college. However, there are many students who have not taken the opportunity to travel and they are preparing to graduate. Is it too late for them to travel? Of course not! There are plenty of scholarships and fellowships available to help them explore the new world they are entering before facing a life of meetings and deadlines.
The Research Institute at the Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity offers a one-year Graduate Dissertation Fellowship, starting September 2011 through June 2012. The Graduate Dissertation Fellowship is awarded to three advanced Stanford doctoral students whose dissertations address issues related to race, culture, and ethnicity. Doctoral students from any academic discipline are welcome to apply. Recipients are expected to be in residence and are required to attend the Fellows Fora and the monthly Faculty Seminars Series sponsored by the Research Institute. Fellows will have an opportunity to form mentoring relationships with Stanford faculty and External Faculty Fellows from various fields, who participate in these programs. Fellows may also meet regularly to discuss their dissertations in a supportive environment. The Graduate Dissertation Fellowship program seeks to create an intellectual community for students and to encourage comparative scholarship that crosses traditional academic disciplinary boundaries.
